The term 'Healthy Fats' might sound like an oxymoron, the idea of fat being healthy seeming illogical. However, there are such things as healthy fats and they provide important functions within the body. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential nutrients and offer support to the heart and brain while doing other amazing things like reducing inflammation, producing hormones, absorbing vitamins, and increasing good cholesterol by helping all of the cells in the body function properly. The calories found within these healthy fats supply the body with energy and also lower triglycerides, which in turn reduces the risk of stroke and heart disease.
With outcomes like these, it's worth ensuring that your body's need for omega-3 fatty acids is met, which is done through diet and supplements. The best source of omega-3 fatty acids are certain types of fish including salmon, herring, mackerel, tuna, and others. In addition to fish, adding ground or milled flaxseed to your diet is an excellent source along with chia seeds, edamame, and walnuts. Avocado, nuts, eggs, olives, and beans are all healthy fats and provide numerous benefits. If taking a supplement as a source of omega-3, be sure to choose a quality brand and discuss dosage with your care provider. Of course, as a member of our Enhance Protocol program, we will be able to determine your specific needs for omega-3 and other essential nutrients through your personalized Roadmap that is based on your individual needs and bloodwork results. If you have any questions or would like more information on either the Enhance Protocol or a Roadmap that is unique to you, email us at info@amindforallseasons.com
Dr. Michael Lewis said, "Omega-3s are not just fats, they're the building blocks for brain recovery and resilience." The role of Omega-3s is vital when it comes to maintaining and enhancing the function of the brain. They have a profound impact on cognitive recovery and facilitate the repair of brain tissue following a head injury. Due to their anti-inflammatory properties, omega-3s have the ability to regulate mood. Depression and anxiety are positively impacted by the consumption of omega-3 fatty acids, resulting in emotional well-being and enhanced mental health and the resilience Dr. Lewis spoke of.
If everyone realized the impact inflammation has on our health, more people would make every effort to avoid and reduce it. Inflammation causes cognitive decline and neurological diseases, both of which are combated by omega-3 fatty acids by promoting the production of resolvins and protectins which help return tissues to a healthy state. Incorporating omega-3s into our lifestyle will yield results physically, mentally, and cognitively by promoting health and preventing disease. While omega-3s are certainly beneficial when recovering from a head injury, depression, or other health issues, they are essential when our mindset is that of prevention, rather than treatment, is the ultimate goal.
